Complexity theorists often quote the non-linearity of dynamical complex systems as a reason why we should not bother even try to predict their future states and just “go with the…

"Obama deported more 'illegals' than Trump in any year, including last year, with ICE going full force, and he did it with courtesy and the law. No masks or guns, no people being shot, no cars being chased and rammed."

Two books for the holidays:
Blaise Agüera y Arcas, in "What Is Intelligence?"(), argues that everything is #computation, while Laura Tripaldi, in "Substrates Unbound" (https://substrates.antikythera.org/), shows how the substrate (#matter) something is made of matters.

How is this different from "#emergent behavior" of a system and "the whole is more than the sum of its parts"?
The swarm component being an "independent learner" or a "simple automaton" is irrelevant.
It is the dynamics between components that counts. Simpler is sometimes better.

DAIR.AI @dair_ai

Swarm intelligence has a secret.

The standard approach treats swarms as collections of independent learners. Each agent makes decisions, learns from outcomes, and coordination somehow emerges. More agents, more complexity, more mystery.

But what if the swarm itself is the

Researches discover a recipe is not enough to bake a cake.
Physicist Howard Pattee is saying this for years: Genes "only" instruct the cell what proteins to produce when, depending on the stage in the development and environmental cues. How they fold afterwards is lawful physics.

Closer To Truth @CloserToTruth

Typically, biologists try to characterize growth development as the result of chemical cues triggered by genetic instructions but that was not the complete picture. Now researchers increasingly appreciate the role of physics: https://bit.ly/486mJT1
